To Stalin

The People's Pilot when the storm winds shake

The world, and old, war-wearied empires fall,

He brought himself in answer to the call

Of duty to his People, and could make
Out of the vast, diversified mosaic

Of mingled nations, hopes, ideals - all

That match the tally of things temporal,

One welded Nation that no war could break!
While Russia stands, a rampart staunchly manned

By those whose faith is kindled by his own,

To fight against the whole world's common foe,

Our hearts acclaim the realm he grandly planned,

The courage that its sacrifices crown,

And the great dawn he visioned long ago.
