Ad Interim. Jaargang 5(1948)– [tijdschrift] Ad Interim– Gedeeltelijk auteursrechtelijk beschermd Vorige Volgende [pagina 210] [p. 210] Ultio deorum Within world of my hearth this stormy night I see the last of battles waged. It seems As though great dreamers, banished gods and kings Are come to earth again and in their white- Hot wrath against this stark world bled of dreams Have drawn their burning swords - legion of flames To deal, onto their souls', the body's death To them who through dry lips called those high names And passionate deeds of yore the imaginings Of fools who deified the winds that blow - - To the horde, counting gain with its last breath As in gust upon gust they take their wild Belated vengeance - till, in the last glow Among the ashes I can see no more Forms or life than the image of a child, And a bowed singer on a lonely shore.
