Cape Town

Crowned by her tabled mountain and orguled

With the blue water of her bounding sea,

Most magical in quiet majesty

With jets of living sunlight lightly jewelled,
And by the cliffs' sharp shadows crepusculed

To darker green than her dark greenery,

She stands, the Mother City, splendidly

Serene, and ruler of what first she ruled,
And looks with faith untroubled to the north,

Beyond the ramparts of the ridged Karroo,

Beyond the uplands of the golden Rand.

And from her fertile, spring-clad slopes go forth

Age-old sublimed emotions, pulsing through

The clear blue beauty of this southern land.
