Versamelde gedigte(1980)–C. Louis Leipoldt– Auteursrechtelijk beschermd Vorige Volgende Reverie I've watched the weird, fantastic shadows play, Patterned upon the pavement when the rain Beat ceaselessly on some shop-window's pane. And through the misty glass there crept astray The lights within, meandering on their way, That struck the passers-by and made a stain Of dark upon the asphalt's damp bright grain, And danced a frenzy like a cobweb fey. They lived a moment and were lost in light From the big burning arc-lamps on the verge, That swathed them in the splendour of its gleam, So shall desires, the shadows that in spite Of love still play on my soul's pavement, merge With the pure splendour that is love supreme.
