Zeer geachte heer!
Uit uw brief maakte ik op, dat het bestuur van uw genootschap mijn verzoek nog niet van de hand heeft gewezen. Dat verheugt me zeer en gaarne wil ik de zaak met u komen bespreken en naar uw genoegen schikken.
Maar nu is er één bezwaar. Aan de school, waar ik tot dusver enkele lessen gaf is plotseling een vacature gekomen, zoodat ik de eerste maand(en) veel meer lessen moet geven. Haast den geheelen dag. Zoodat ik altijd tusschen 9.30 en 10.30 te Bussum ben. Vrij vragen durf ik niet goed. Leugens gebruiken mag ik natuurlijk niet en de directeur zou
me voor deze zaak stellig geen verlof geven. Zoudt u nu niet een uur willen geven Zaterdags of Woensdagsmiddags na 2.
Om kwart voor twee kom ik dan aan de Muiderpoort. 'n Fiets heb ik bij me, zoodat ik vrij spoedig door de stad komen kan.

Op 11 en 12 juli 1904 verwachtte de SDAP te Amsterdam bezoek van een honderdtal Gentse socialisten aan de Amsterdamse kameraden. Zij zouden privé worden ondergebracht. De Haan richtte zich tot A. Roukema, in die tijd secretaris van de federatie Amsterdam van de SDAP, die op 19 mei in Het Volk een oproep geplaatst had. Op zijn brief staat ‘20 Mei 04’, waarschijnlijk in het handschrift van Roukema.
