As I am more a person of drawings and images, it's very hard to describe my inspirations or where they come from. Inspiration flows and grows. For example, the inspiration of my bachelor collection came on one of the trips I made during my holidays. I saw all these different people of all different countries and backgrounds. Yet, as I saw them on the beach, they seemed to share this same, universal emotion of happiness. This little thought started to grow and eventually transformed into the topic of my collection.
Not only did I want to share this ‘Piece of happiness’, it also made me think about what made me happy. One of the things that do so is to express my own creativity. Since my childhood I have liked to draw and create my own world. I used to love making clothes for my dolls, at first from paper but then later also from fabric. It is here that my ‘passion for fashion’ began. I became very interested in how clothes are made. I wanted to know every little thing about it as I decided to study fashion and make a living out of it. It was never a question where I wanted to study. After having seen a fashion show of the fashion department of the Royal Academy of Antwerp, I was sold. That energy, that creative vibe struck me and never left me. The silhouettes were so new and beautiful that I just simply had to go and study at this school. Now, I am really anxious to see what the future holds for me. I would love to expand my horizon working for interesting labels and brands where I can continue learning and gain experience. And who knows maybe one day start my own label where I'll be free to create my own world. | |
