In general, my work is inspired by art. For each project I look for a new language that appeals to me and I collect images from artists to get ideas for the technique, colours and materials that will stimulate my creativity. I like to play with shapes and therefore I tend to work with unconventional materials. I want to question the construction of a garment but it could easily be a print, a colour combination or an embellishment that dictates the final idea for a garment. Reflecting on my clothes as some kind of installation or sculpture around the body, helps me to disconnect from what I know and push myself to work more instinctively. What turned me to study fashion, was the idea that I would create a show. The Antwerp Academy promised to be the place where I could experiment and discover these show possibilities. During my studies my interests expanded and I grew to love many other aspects of fashion, but I still get a kick from creating a collection. I have the urge to create my own collections. I am aware of the difficulties starting up my own brand, especially since my sense of aesthetics is not at all a commercial one. Which does not mean that I would not like to work as a designer for an artistic brand which questions the idea of beauty and style. | |
