Dear Ric and Else,
I was shocked and saddened to receive your letter with the news of Herman Heyse's death. He was so full of life and seemed to be enjoying himself and his family (of which he obviously considered you both a part). I called Elaine Block and she, too, was terribly saddened.
Nevertheless, we are so happy to have known Herman, even for so brief a time. We pray for Jo and you at this time.
I take comfort in the happiness he gave and received. I shall write Jo, too. In addition, if there is anything we can do, please let us know.
