Onze Stam. Jaargang 1907(1907)– [tijdschrift] Onze Stam– Gedeeltelijk auteursrechtelijk beschermd Vorige Volgende Of the deep, dark Rhine. There's a crown lies low in the deep, dark Rhine; The rarest gems in its gold rim shine: And who so to lift that crown hath power, He shall wear it at Aix in the self same hour; And from Danube to Elbe, each tower and town Shall yield to the lord of the Rhine's gold crown. There's a lyre lies low in the deep, dark Rhine Of ivory and gold is its framework fine: And who shall lift that lyre on high He shall sing the songs that shall never die; And the world shall cherish his fair renown, When low in the dust lies the Rhine's gold crown. There's a small white house by the deep, dark Rhine; Its lattice is framed with the clinging vine: In that lowly house dwells a noble heart And its owner will own all earth's best part: So that heart be mine, I'll with joy resign The crown and the lyre of the deep, dark Rhine.
