IBBY Honour List 1988
Every two years an IBBY Honour List is published which includes outstanding books from IBBY member countries. Each National Section may submit three entries for the Honour List: for excellency in writing, illustration, and translation. The books for writing and illustration must have been first published no earlier than three years before the awards are presented. For a country with a substantial and continuing production of children's books in more than one language, up to three books may be submitted for writing. One book is cited as an example for the honoured translator's work.
Important considerations in selecting the Honour List titles are that the books chosen be representative of the best in children's literature from each country, and that the books are recommended as suitable for publication throughout the world, thus furthering the IBBY objective of encouraging international understanding through children's literature.
