In een catalogus van het in een vorige aflevering door mij genoemde Amerikaanse bibliografische antiquariaat Oak Knoll Books kwam ik een zestiental boeken tegen, gerangschikt onder het trefwoord ‘Biblio Novel’. De beschrijvingen zijn té aardig om ze hier niet te reproduceren.

Reprint of the first edition. Fiddle Longspay, heir to centuries of Maryland tradition, has his life changed when Isabelle enters it. He attempts to settle down by cataloguing Spectre's rare book collection. Jacket very worn.

First edition. Stephanos, child of Greek immigrants, grows up in Pennsylvania in the 1930s. He is affected by the ‘fidgety librarian’ in their local library. Mark on jacket.

First edition. Oliver Fewmish, the hero of this ‘riotous blend of sin, sex and satire’ is the librarian for the Hatchettsville (Virginia) Public Library. Remnants of tissue guard on inside covers; jacket tape repaired.

First edition. (Currie p. 274). With the aid of some unusual servants, the main character, an author, repeats Paracelsus' experiment of masculine parthenogenesis. His wife tries to disprove his tale by telephoning the New York Public Library. Signed on the title page by Keiler, Spine faded.

First edition. Contains the short story ‘Thieves’ which deals with the library on board a ship and the theft of books. Spine age yellowed somewhat.

First edition. Everyone is seeking the destruction of Hartspring, ‘father, voyeur, teacher, self-displayer, war hero, lover, salesman of encyclopedias...’. He is helped out by his student, Johnny Yoke, editor of The Organ. Lockridge's first book.

First U.S. edition. Contains a chapter entitled ‘Bibliophilia’ in which the sage discusses books and their importance on the piazza with books all around him. After the philosophical talk, the man says ‘You ain't got me Jack,’... ‘I'm a bookbinder’.
