V. Flowers and birds.

The little tender heather-flower,

The tiny bird within its nest,

Seems oft indeed a lonely guest,

But God provideth for them best,

Sends sunshine and refreshing shower;

A friendly hand by no means scant,

Oft cares for bird and heather-plant.

Thus, undisturbed, ye thrive and flourish,

Inspired with vital growth elate;

The bird rejoices: ‘God is great!’

The plant sheds blossoms variegate:

Its odours sweet the earth do nourish;

Yea, both extol their God and Lord,

And friends who reared them at his word.

You lads and lasses, merry singing, -

 

You fluttering birds and tender seeds,

 

The Lord with bounty ever feeds;

 

He well provides for all your needs,

 

His spirit and protection bringing.

 

O bloom and sing then to His praise,

 

Birds, plants and youths, in all your ways.
