Geachte Heer Thijm, ik ben gisteren bij Giza Ritschl geweest. Wij komen Dinsdag samen naar u luisteren. Nu ik het besloten heb, is het prettig om vast voór te denken. Ik gloof, dat het zeer vol zal zijn. Het is geen intieme zaal, en ook wel wat groot. Maar dat is zoo.

Op 8 november 1904 vindt een algemene ledenvergadering van afdeling Amsterdam V van de SDAP plaats, een vergadering die blijkens de notulen een ‘zeer onstuimig’ verloop had:
er was een ‘compromitteerende uitlating’ van ex-penningmeester Van Bleijswijk Sombeek tegen De Haan, er was een ‘onverkwikkelijk incident’ tussen voorzitter A.S. de Levita en De Haan, volgens de een had De Haan secretaris T. van der Waerden ‘een minder goed partijlid’ genoemd, volgens de ander had Van der Waerden hem voor ‘ploertje’ uitgescholden. In ‘heftig tumult’ werd de vergadering verdaagd.
Zo verzuimde De Haan de lezing van Van Deyssel.
