Efkes 'n briefjen. Heel in de haast. Misschien ga ik de stad uit. Mijn brieven vallen soms in verkeerde handen. Wees zoo goed en zendt me geen niet-geplaatste verzen terug. Wilt u? Verscheur ze maar. Hebt u er moois in gevonden?

De Haan blijft aandringen op toestemming om Verwey in Noordwijk te mogen opzoeken. Intussen gaat de volgende brief, op schrift gesteld waarschijnlijk omstreeks de helft van augustus 1902, voornamelijk over Van Eeden alias Van Eedentje. (Ook Giza Ritschl
schreef geregeld ‘Van Eedentje’, zo gek was dat niet.) De oude mevrouw Van Vloten, schoonmoeder zowel van Van Eeden als van Verwey, was wel vaker op straat lastiggevallen. Mea Verwey vertelt in haar boekje 1 uit 7 hoe (in Noordwijk) ‘bij het uitgaan van de R.K. Jongensschool de uitgelaten kinderen haar [hadden] uitgejouwd om haar kleding, en er was een pet op haar eigen hoofddeksel neergekomen’ (p. 91). Dat hoofddeksel bestond uit een kapje van zwarte zij, dat haar moest beschermen tegen de wind in Noordwijk aan Zee. Van Eeden logeerde de tweede helft van juli in Noordwijk (zie zijn Dagboek dl. II p. 538-540); De Haan verbleef in hotel Het Hof van Holland aldaar. Van de door De Haan verslagen vechtpartij vindt men in het Dagboek helaas niets terug.
Albert Verwey kreeg in totaal zeven kinderen, maar had er in 1902 pas zes: Liesbet, Mea, Gonda, Martha, Jan en Gerlof.
