Den Haag, 18 oktober 1748The fear of your being detained at Aix longer than I could wish made me venture upon writing to you, for should you leave Aix befor this arrives I suppose your letters will be sent after you, which I heartily wish may prove the case, for in my opinion your presence is very necessary in The Hague. Yesterday a gentleman from DelftGa naar voetnoot2) was with me and told me some things which I thought you ought to be acquainted with and therefor I advised him to write directly to you and because he was afraid to put the letter into the post-office at Delft, he has by his servant this morning sent it to me and I will hope it will come with this safe to your hands. Things at Leyden are all, I hear, in a great confusion, and no less in Gauda, Tergow and they are, it's said, beginning at Rotterdam. But I need say nothing concerning those stirs - for I suppose you are informed of them from better hands and the prints that are spread abroad there - in Holland. |
