Londen, 3/14 mei 1748

The greffier answered me that he approves of it extreamly¹⁾,

1) Dat Charles Bentinck naar Hannover ging. Zie Bentinck II, nr. 337.

that he had spoke to the Prince about it and that H.H. had answer'd that he would consult the pensionary and nous autres about it. The duke of Newcastle will write to-night to the duke²⁾ to know whether he approves of lord Holdernesse³⁾ being in Holland and if H.R.H. thinks him proper. I believe the thing will do.

3) De Bentincks c.s. wensten Holdernesse als opvolger van Sandwich als Engels gezant in Den Haag. Hoewel men hem in Engeland te onbeduidend vond, gaf Newcastle tenslotte in 1749 aan de wensen van de Bentinck groep gehoor.
