I must give you warning on one thing, for my honour, and that you may not give credit too easily to what I hear some people say and write of me, that of late I have been more than once hooted down and laugh'd at, for having repeated word for word as my opinion what I had heard the old Greffier Fagel¹⁾ say the day, sometimes the hour before, having been with him to consult him. This I desire you to remember; and I tell it you for your satisfaction, - - as I do it for my own - -, and not by way of apology...

Last year when Marshal Wade, Duke of Arenberg and Count Nassau were together in Flanders, it was the fault of the Duke of Arenberg that nothing could be done for want of resolution. Is it the Duke of Arenberg's fault that the army under Wade is march'd back from Hexham to Newcastle?²⁾
