Each work has an inventory number made up as follows: the first letter stands for the technique (s = painting, d = drawing); this is followed by a reference number and then by a capital letter (B = loan) and the year of the loan Also included here is a list of works that have been returned to their owners since the last loan list was published (see Van Gogh Museum Journal 2001, pp 183-84)
