poignant, opened the second phase of a race discrimination trial that will conclude with a jury award of damages to the four journalists. The same jury found on April 15, that the Daily News had racially discriminated against the four plaintiffs in 12 incidents between 1979 and 1982. The discrimination found by the jury generally involved jobs that the plaintiffs were denied and retaliation when they complained. The parties seemed near agreement on a package that would give the plaintiffs about 3 million dollars.
