4110. St. GoffeGa naar voetnoot1). (H.A.)I have sent this bearer with the enclosed, wich I did not receave till Satterday at noone. I foresee many inconveniences in my appearing with His Highnes at this time, principally because, when the matter immediately after shal be made publick, men that are inquisitive and suspicious may happen from thence to collect the secret; yet because there may be occasion to debate the circumstances of this matter, I thought it necessary to be at hand to receive your commands, either by writing or conference, as you shall appoint. Besides I have something to adde unto that which I sent you heretofore, to manifest the vanity of the report we discoursed of at Eckelo, and was written to you since. It is a groundlesse and empty imagination, and there is nothing more certaine then that their Maties continue most cleare and firme to the proposition you know of, and hope, God will in good time give it a blessed conclusion. This I am commanded to assure His Highnes, and desire to be directed by you after what manner I may do it. For the busines of this enclosed you may please to understand, that part of the mony is already returned and the rest is comming; that the peace in DenmarkGa naar voetnoot2) falls in most fortunately to make it easy; that the persons engaged in it are ready and affectionately disposed to take it in hand; that the King being gone northward can hardly subsist without such an assistance, and with it he will undoubtedly be able to restore his army from thence. The advantages are great and evident; it remaines only that the difficulties be taken off here by such resolutions as shal be found fittest upon this letter.
