By several letters I have seen from the army, the King's presence has greatly contributed to the honour of that day; and I assure you that all the reflexion-makers here have their mouths stop'd. I will see to get some of the most remarkable particulars together and send 'em you, that you may be convinced at least for yourself of the truth. The silence of Mr. Trevor, and of the English everywhere, has made others imagine the victory was not on their side, or the advantage at least not so considerable as was said at first. The French are ready enough to boast even without reason. |
