I was introduced last Tuesday into the Assembly of the States General. So that now every day I am taken up from eleven to twelve, or sometimes, tho' seldom, longer. The affairs that are treated there are of a less tedious nature than those of the States of Holland, and as they must of course pass all thro' my hands, as being the first in the Deputation, it will engage me much more than before, when it was plainly the intention and design of those that were before to keep the direction of everything to themselves. So that I never could see into anything but by bits and scraps; which was discouraging, and intirely impossible of getting the thread of business......
