My Dear Lord, Though probably you will have hear'd before this, that our Treaty with the Court of Vienna is concluded; I would not omitt, in all events informing you of it. The courier arriv'd here on Wednesday night last, with the Treaty signed on the 16th Inst. and I immediately forwarded him to England⁷¹.

I heartily congratulate your Lordship upon this fortunate event; and that the King our Master, has the pleasure of restoring the tranquillity of Europe, without deviating in any one single point from his former engagements. I should think this news cannot but be even agreable at the Court where you reside. A verse as they were to a warr they must surely be glad to see it prevented, and at the same time all the good effects of a warr, obtain'd by a peace⁷².

In my negotiations here now, it may probably be of use to me to be inform'd a little more particularly of the sentiments, and transactions of the French Court upon this occasion⁷³; therefore I will begg the favour of your Lordship to lett me hear from you, as often as anything occurrs at Paris; that you think it may be for his Majesty's service for me to know.
