Hague, 27th October 1730
My Dear Lord, I have no other excuse for troubling you now, but to recommend to your protection a young fellow, who was some time with me at The Hague, I mean mr. HammondGa naar voetnoot51, who I suppose has already been to pay his duty to you, and in whose favour I promis'd to write to you long ago. He has extream good parts, and a great deal of learning but they are hid, under an uncommon bashfullness and mauvaise honte. If by giving him leave to frequent you, you give him an opportunity of growing less awkward and bashfull, you will do him a singular piece of service, and which I really think he deserves. I heartily congratulate you upon the success you have had in the affair of DunkirkGa naar voetnoot52, I hope the promises will be performed before the meeting of the ParliamentGa naar voetnoot53. We expect with the utmost impatience here some account of monsieur de Castellar, in hopes of knowing then, what we are to trust to.
Sir Luke Schaub sett out from hence yesterdaymorning for DresdenGa naar voetnoot54.
It is impossible to be with more truth and regard, My Dear Lord - - -
