Amsterdam
The Art Competition
A competition of works by living artists belonging to the nations which have been invited to the Games of the IXth Olympiad will be held at Amsterdam. In conjunction with this competition there will be an exhibition of Art, to be held in the Municipal Museum, Paulus Potterstreet, Amsterdam from Juny 15th to August 12th 1928.
The Art Competition includes: painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, music.
Only works representing subjects relating to sport and sporting events, which answers to high artistic requirements, and which have not been exhibited at any previous Olympic Games, will be allowed.
Painting: |
Competitors may submit the following works for competition and exhibition: |
a. |
paintings (in oils, on canvas or on panels). |
b. |
drawings (on paper, or similar material, in one or more colours). |
c. |
graphic art, (engravings, lithographs, etc.) |
Sculpture: |
Competitors may submit the following works for competition and exhibition: |
a. |
sculptures |
b. |
reliefs and medals. |
Architecture: |
Competitors may submit the following works for competition and exhibition: |
a. |
drawings on a scale of at least 1: 200 for buildings, and at least 1: 500 for grounds, drawings in detail on a larger scale may be added, |
b. |
water colour paintings, |
c. |
perspective drawings, |
d. |
casts, |
e. |
photographs of works which have been executed. |

Only architectural designs will be admitted having as their object the practice of sport such as: stadia, sports grounds, playing grounds, covered in courts, club buildings, boat houses, gymnasia, swimming schools etc. and which answer to high artistic requirements.
Literature: |
Competitors may submit the following: |
a. |
lyrics and contemplative works (as songs, vocal music, odes, hymns, cantatas, ballads etc., lyric prose, essays, etc.). |
b. |
dramatic works, (tragedies, plays, comedies, farces, librettos, open air plays, dialogues, scenaria, etc.). |
c. |
epic works (as romances, novels, heroic narrative poems, short stories, etc.) |
Music. |
Competitors may submit the following: |
a. |
compositions of songs for one or more persons, with or without accompaniment of piano or orchestra. |
b. |
compositions for one instrument, with or without accompaniment, and for chamber music (instrumental). |
c. |
compositions for orchestra (string or mixed orchestra, wind band and brass band). |
The following awards wil be made: |
1. |
Olympic silver-gilt medal with diploma; |
2. |
Olympic silver medal with diploma; |
3. |
Olympic bronze medal with diploma. |

Commission of social and economic propaganda on account of the Olympic Games
The following gentlemen are managing directors, viz.:
Dr. M. de Hartogh, Chairman; G. Voorhoeve. Vice-Chairman; Mr. J.G. Steneker, Secretary; Mr. A J. Fokker, Secretary; Mr. Dr. W.M. Westerman, Treasurer.
The commission consists of nearly one hundred members residing in different parts of the country, and belonging to the different branches of social and economic life in the Netherlands. During the Olympic Games it will have its residence in the same building where the Committee 1928 will be stationed, namely in the premises at Heerengracht 548. During the time prior to the games alle correspondance is to be directed to the Secretary of the Commission, Mr. J.G. Steneker, 2e Weteringplantsoen 9, Amsterdam, C. Tel. 36225.

The Amsterdam Students' Club ‘Nos Iungit Amicitia’

During the Olympic Games the Students' club ‘Nos Iungit Amicitia’ the club-house of the Corporation of Amsterdam students will be open day and night, at all times.
The Committee will highly appreciate to receive during this time all men-competitors in the Olympic Games and especially those who are students.
At the same time all visitors and spectators to the Games, but exclusively those, who are students, will be always welcome.
Competitors in the Games will be admitted on production of their certificate of competition and the students-visitors too will have to legitimate themselves, if required.
The Committee of the Club intends to receive the Competitors and the students-visitors on Friday July 27h, from 9. p.m., in order to enable them to make acquaintance with each other.
The Club is established Sarphatistraat 3 near the Paleis voor Volksvlijt (Industrial Palace).

Inquiry Office
The Official Inquiry office of the Committee is established: at the Heerengracht 466 corner Spiegelstraat, in the former building of the ‘Nederlandsche Handel Maatschappij’.
The Inquiry-Office is opened from 9 o'clock a.m. till 6 o'clock p.m. and from the 20th July from 9 o'clock a.m. till 9 o'clock p.m., tel. 36180.
The Inquiry-Office intends to furnish informations in the full sense of the word to all competitors and persons being concerned in the Games:

c. | the results of all passed competition, |

d. | the names of them who must attend in the next competition or finale, |

e. | the records of every branch of sport, |

h. | Official festivities and places, hours, duration, hosts, required suit, |
| |
i. | Amusements to unbend athletes, costs approximately, duration, |

j. | Distractions to unbend athletes, costs approximately, duration, where tickets can be obtained, |

l. | train service (international), facilities, reductions, |

National Gallery (Rijks-Museum). Stadhouderskade 42, containing pictures, prints engravings, library (also open on Saturday night from 7.30 p.m. till 10.30 p.m.) and the Dutch Museum of History and Art. Open daily. Admission on Monday 25 ct., other days 10 ct. May 1st-September 30th 10 a.m.-5 p.m. On Sundays and holidays 1 p.m.-5 pm. Celebrated pictures of Rembrandt, amongst them the ‘Nightwatch’.

The Municipal Museum. Paulus Potterstraat 59. This museum, a magnificent modern building (bricks), is open daily. Admission 10 ct. May 1st-September 30th 10 a.m.-5 p.m. On Sundays and holidays 1 p.m.-5 p.m. It contains besides several rooms reserved for temporary exhibitions, the collection Suasso, foundation Sophia Augusta, historical pictures and a gallery of modern paintings.
