Het is ons bekend dat gij de man zijt waarop de heer Mr Aalberse doelde, toen hij publiceerde dat een kath. kamerlid van ‘een sociaaldemocraat’ materiaal had ontvangen om in de Kamer Tak te bestrijden. Wij konden daarom zoo boudweg in Het Volk zeggen dat hij loog, want wij wisten dat gij geen partijlid meer zijt, terwijl de heer A. het feit gebruikte als bewijs van de verdeeldheid in onze partij, waarvoor het, als het een buitenstaander betreft, ongeschikt is.
Intusschen moet u het gebruik dat van uwe mededeelingen gemaakt is, toch tegen de borst gestuit hebben, en het moet u toch ook hinderen dat gij door de lui tot wie gij wendet, voor verrader van zijn partij wordt aangezien. Want zij meenen dat gij wèl partijlid zijt, dat blijkt uit hun geschrijf.
Nu lekt het langzamerhand al meer en meer door, wie het is. Doordien gij geen partijlid zijt, staat gij er vrij voor, zoudt gij maar niet besluiten om in 't publiek mede te deelen dat gij het zijt, en hoe het zoo kwam? Zooals ik zeg het komt nu eerstdaags toch los, en dan zult gij het toch niet kunnen en ook niet willen doen liegen en dan is de zaak voor u
heel anders, lijkt zij veel erger, want als het nu door anderen publiek wordt, zal men vragen waarom, indien gij eerlijk in de zaak stondt, gij de leugen zoolang hebt laten rondwaren.
Ik verzoek u dus, hetzij zelf te willen publiceeren dat gij het zijt, hetzij mij daartoe te machtigen. Het is ons ook bekend dat gij de brief aan het kath. kamerlid niet teruggekregen hebt, zooals A. publiceerde. Gij ziet dus dat mijn inlichtingen volledig zijn.

De Haan was onwetend van de publiciteit; hij had geen abonnement op Het Volk meer. Blijkbaar was hij in Nijmegen waar hij werkte niet in de gelegenheid om de krant erop na te slaan. Hij vroeg Vliegen om meer informatie.
