De Haan aan Verwey, 25 november 1906Amsterdam, 25-11 1906552.Beste mijnheer Verwey, nu hadt U heusch gedacht, dat ik U nooit meer met mijne vervelende geschriften plagen zou? Vergeef me. Ik dacht het ook. Dit is een stukje over de mooie maar toch foutieve intreerede van prof. Struycken. Ben ik een bazig denker, dat ik dit durf doen. Komaan, in uwe jeugd zijt ge ook wel zoo geweest. Denk maar eens aan professor Spruyt553.. Ik zend U dit geschriftje opdat U zult weten, dat ik dikwijls aan U denk, en ik wil gaarne, dat U zult zien, dat mijn verstand nog heel niet beschadigd is. Ziet U het wel? Heel prettig zou ik het vinden, als mijn stukje een plaats in Uw tijdschrift vinden mocht. Maar dat is secundair. Ik houd zoo van Uw tijdschrift, en ik kan U, mijn heer, niet zeggen hoeveel liever ik wilde, dat Gij mijn werk goed zoudt vinden, in plaats Van Deyssel. Maar zoo is het leven nu eenmaal. Ik hoop dus, dat U het stukje plaatsen wilt. Die arme Giza! Weet Gij het wel? Bas Veth is getrouwd met eene vrouw. Eene vrouw van straat554.. Waar moet het heen als hij Giza geen gelden voor haar onderhoud meer geven wil? Beschreven rechten heeft zij immers niet. Arme Giza. Nu hoop ik, dat het u altijd welga. De derde brief van De Haan aan Robbers lijkt niet lang vóór Sinterklaas 1906 geschreven. Het ‘artikel’ dat hij Robbers zendt, is duidelijk geen artikel in normale zin, maar een nerveuze vertelling. Misschien gaat het om het proza dat Verwey op 17 oktober als ‘niet griezelig’ geretourneerd had. De Haan bleef het dan toch ‘krankzinnig’ vinden. Met het ‘Tijdschrift’ bedoelt De Haan Van Deyssels blad De XXe Eeuw, eerder Tweemaandelijksch Tijdschrift geheten. |
