Geachte Heeren Bestuurders, de bladen vermelden, dat de burgemeester van Den Helder schandalig genoeg is geweest om de opvoeringen van ‘Allerzielen’ te verbieden. Dat is zoo'n kaakslag voor de Kunst en voor onze kunstenaarsvereeniging, dat we, meene ik, schandelijke menschen werden, als wij ons daarbij nederlegden.
Ik verzoek U dus wel, namens onze Vereeniging overal waar dat helpen kan tegen dien fatsoendelijken burgemeester te protesteeren en op te treden.
Verder dit. Indertijd heeft men in Leiden overwogen, ‘Allerzielen’ voor ‘genoodigden’ op te voeren; dat is toen niet gebeurd; de burgemeester dreigde, dat ook zoo iets verboden was. In Duitschland vertoont men, gloof ik, zulke voorstellingen met genoodigden-in-schijn met succes.
Zou de Vereeniging in Den Helder niet een dergelijke vertooning kunnen organiseeren? Eene zaal zal wel te krijgen zijn. Iedereen zal toch in dat vrijzinnig-democratische district niet zoo krank zijn.
Het is een denkbeeld. Ik geef 't U voor beter, maar verzoek 't U wel ernstig te overwegen.
